SICSA: Bring pets inside; if it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them

With temperatures expected to drop down to the teens tonight, SICSA Pet Adoption Center is reminding the public that if it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for your pets.

“While many of our communities may be ready for this weather in terms of removing snow and salting walkways, those pets currently staying outdoors are not,” SICSA President & CEO Nora Vondrell said.

She is asking residents to bring their pets inside, especially tonight.

“If you have a garage or shed, that location is a great place to start. Mud or laundry rooms and guest bathrooms are great as well. If those are not available, consider making a makeshift house outdoors using a Styrofoam cooler, straw, and/or a Mylar blanket. Do not use hay or conventional blankets and towels as they absorb moisture and will not help to keep the pet warm and dry,” she said.

SICSA, located at 2600 Wilmington Pike, also has a few shelters on hand, made by youth attending humane education camps, that residents can use if they don’t have the needed materials.
