Snake blamed for widespread DP&L power outage

A snake looking for a warm place to spend the winter was blamed on a power outage that impacted thousands of Dayton Power and Light customers Monday morning.

The outage started around 9 a.m. and at 9:30 a.m. 6,928 DP&L were without power, according to DP&L's online outage map.

A DP&L official said the outage was caused by a snake that infiltrated a substation near the Presidential Banquet Center in Kettering.

The unknown type of snake was apparently looking for some place warm, the official said.

All but about 1,600 were restored within the hour and complete restoration was expected by 10 a.m., according to the official.
