Ohio House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger, at podium, speaks as David Sparks, a Democrat running to represent the 43rd district, gestures during a press conference Monday at Dayton Raquet Club.

A press conference called by the Ohio Republican Party to highlight Democratic Statehouse candidate David Sparks’ alleged past drug use and “sexually explicit” YouTube videos was interrupted Monday by Sparks himself.

Ohio GOP officials, including Speaker of the Ohio House Cliff Rosenberger and Ohio Republican Party Chairman Matt Borges, called the conference to tout the re-election campaign of 43rd District Rep. Jeff Rezabek, R-Clayton, and denounce Sparks, who acknowledged he used crack cocaine “30 years ago.”

GOP officials played portions of Sparks’ YouTube videos, wherein Sparks sang a song about touching a breast while he was a 14-year-old. Sparks said the song was about “realizing how we were at that age” and promoting contraception.

Sparks and a cohort of supporters crashed the press conference at the Dayton Racquet Club in Kettering Tower. Sparks said the Rezabek campaign was using smear tactics against him.

We’ll continue to report reaction on this story as it develops.
