Suspect in Dayton officer’s shooting death ordered to remain in jail

A federal judge has denied a motion by one of the suspects in the shooting death of DEA agent and Dayton police detective Jorge Del Rio to be released from jail.

The lawyer for Cahke Cortner argued last month that Cortner should be let out of jail pending trial in light of his stable work history, his roots in Dayton and lack of criminal history.

The state rebutted that argument, saying that Cortner is a danger to the community, according to our partners at the Dayton Daily News.

Det. Del Rio was shot and killed during a raid in November.

Attorneys have said that Cortner was in possession of a firearm, but did not fire on police.

Nathan Goddard and Lionel Combs III are also facing charges. Cortner is not accused of pulling the trigger and killing Del Rio, however, he is charged with multiple counts that carry potential death sentences in the case.
