Brad Weeter was 15 when he started working at Campioni’s in Springboro. It was the spring of his freshman year at Springboro High School. Twelve months later, he had been promoted to shift leader. By the time the redbuds had bloomed his junior year, his title had changed to assistant manager. This job has earned him some valuable experience and an impressive resume.
“He is respected by his fellow employees, and he works well with customers. He is trustworthy and can multi-task,” said Campioni’s owner Brad Sheltrown. “He has a great personality, sense of humor and leadership abilities. These are the qualities I saw in him shortly after he was hired, and the qualities that got him promoted at such a young age.”
Weeter has a daunting schedule for a high school student. He works 35- to 40-hour weeks while maintaining a rigorous course-load at school.
He’s also involved in Muse Machine and SADD as a senior.
“I worked hard so I could make more money and put myself through college. I don’t really like to ask my parents for money,” Weeter said. “I like to be more independent and have money for extras like going out to eat and paying for repairs on my car.”
It’s refreshing to hear from a teenager who doesn’t want to ask mom and pop for money. Weeter has managed to save more than $10,000 so far. He’s also paid for an engine overhaul for his 2004 Volvo and bought himself a new set of tires this year.
“He’s not into the drinking and partying that other kids are into now. He gives 100 percent at school and 100 percent at work,” said his mom, Geri Dey. “This year he’s kept up his GPA. I do worry that he’s not getting enough sleep, but I’m very proud of him.”
Weeter will be attending the University of Cincinnati this fall. He was accepted as an undecided major but has been leaning toward accounting recently.
“Managing your money is the most important part of having a business,” Weeter said. “I’m really glad that I’ve worked during high school. It’s taught me responsibility, time management and other life lessons.”
Campioni’s Pizzeria is at 92 Edgebrooke Drive in Springboro. The menu includes pizza, subs, salads, wings and appetizers. It’s equipped with a game room and has a full bar.
“Brad is a great employee and a great person,” said Sheltrown. “He will have a bright future when he graduates, and we look forward to him coming back and working with us on his breaks from college.”
