Three Clark County teens charged with murder

Springfield, OH — Three teenagers have been indicted by a Clark County Grand Jury this week.  A 21-year-old man, Rick D. Scott Jr. was shot in the chest early last month and killed.

Spencer Whitt, 17, of 39 E. Cassilly St., faces a single count of murder.

Two others, Jonathan D. Kittle, 18, of 1631 Cypress Ave., and Justin S. Schell, 17, of 78 Skyline Drive in Enon, were indicted on one count each of murder and aggravated robbery.

Assistant Clark County prosecutor Dan Driscoll said the teens will be tried as adults.

BACKSTORY

At 10:40 p.m. March 5, Scott was shot in the chest in the 1000 block of North Fountain Avenue near the intersection of Cecil Street. Scott was taken to the Springfield Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Driscoll said the three suspects were planning to rob Scott when the shooting occurred. It is not clear who fired the fatal shot that killed him, but Driscoll said all three suspects played a part in the robbery attempt.
