Three years after Fiesel's death, Baker gives up custody of kids

After three years of fighting to get them back, a woman at the center of the 2007 murder trial of three year old Marcus Fiesel gave up custody of her three children Friday, Aug. 28.

Local 12 attended a hearing in Clermont County and reports that witnesses were surprised when Amy Baker willingly turned over custody of her two girls and boy ages 6, 8 and 10.

In a statement, Baker said she did not believe she could win a trial to get the kids back, Local 12 reported.

Baker lived with Liz and David Carroll, who were found guilty of murdering Fiesel after the foster child was bound and left in a hot closet while they went on a family reunion. Baker was a key witness in the trial, earning her immunity for helping to put the Carrolls in prison.

Baker’s children were taken away by Clermont County Job and Family Services the day after the Carrolls were arrested and have been in foster care. Officials expected Baker to ask the court Friday to give custody of her children to a family member, Local 12 reported, but instead she permanently surrendered her rights to the children.

Clermont County will now try to find adoptive homes for the children, according to Local 12.
