3 times mattresses caught fire in the Miami Valley

While most people associate mattresses with sweet dreams those thoughts can turn into a nightmare during a bedroom fire.

Some mattresses burn faster, subtracting vital minutes from making a safe escape.

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, News Center 7 looks into mattress fires and how you can stay safe. Make sure to tune in at 5:30 p.m.

Here are three times mattress fires were reported in the Miami Valley.

On Nov. 2, a mattress at an abandoned home in the 100 block of Milton Street caught fire. A neighbor reported the fire, and when crews arrived shortly before 6 a.m. there was smoke and flames coming from the house.

No one was injured.

Firefighters contained a Dayton mattress fire to one room at a Malvern Avenue home on March 26. Initial reports stated that smoke was visible from the house.

No injuries were reported and everyone at the home was able to evacuate safely.

A fire broke out at an Adams Street duplex On Nov. 23, 2017, after a space heater was too close to a mattress.

All the residents — except for the person in the apartment where the fire started — were able to return to their residences.

That individual also suffered some smoke inhalation due to the fire.
