Sporty's Taphouse & Grill — the sports bar and restaurant that operates in the space that formerly housed iconic restaurant The Barnsider and later, Liquid Sports Club — opened a "Sporty's Carryout" at 3489 W. Siebenthaler Ave. in Dayton late last week, according to Sporty's managing member Howard Mason said. The space formerly housed a restaurant called Food for Life Supreme.

“After the tornado, we were unsure when we were going to be able to reopen our Main Street location,” Mason said. “Plans that were developed to open the carryout location were accelerated because of the temporary closing of Main Street.”
The new location offers the full menu of Sporty’s Taphouse & Grill. It is a food-only carryout operation; no beer or other alcohol is available.

Sporty’s Carryout uses the same phone number, (937) 242-7553, as the Main Street restaurant. “When callers call a carryout order in, they will be instructed to pick up their orders at the new location,” Mason said.
Sporty's Carryout’s hours are noon to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday.

Sporty's Taphouse & Grill — the sports bar and restaurant that operates in the space that formerly housed iconic restaurant The Barnsider and later, Liquid Sports Club — is bouncing back after being damaged in the Memorial Day tornadoes.

The bar portion of the business reopened yesterday, Wednesday June 12, and if all goes as planned, the kitchen is set to reopen later today, Thursday June 13, managing member Howard Mason told this news outlet this morning. Sporty’s, which has 60 taps and 18 televisions, is located at 5202 N. Main St. in Harrison Twp.

“Several buildings around us were destroyed. We were spared, and only had minor damage,” Mason said. “We needed to replace windows, doors, roofing and the biggest line item, a rooftop HVAC unit that was blown off of our roof and crash landed in the rear parking lot.”
“We just got electricity restored Tuesday. We re-opened Wednesday as a bar only. When the gas is restored and our new food is delivered Thursday morning, we will re-open our kitchen Thursday afternoon.”

Sporty’s opened on Sept. 6, 2018. Mason was part of a group that won the bid at an auction for the real estate and building, paying $188,000 for the property last year. Total investment in startup costs reached $300,000, Mason told this news outlet last fall.
Barnsider had been a popular gathering spot and destination for prom dinners, rehearsal dinners, family gatherings and special events for four decades, serving families and communities in north Dayton and in northern Montgomery County. It shut down in May 2016. Its successor, Liquid Sports Club, shut down in July 2017 after eight months.
