Harrison Township restaurant back open after Memorial Day tornado damage

A popular Harrison Twp. restaurant is now back open after tornadoes hit the Miami Valley.

Burkey Family Restaurant, 670 Shiloh Springs Road, was among thousands of buildings damaged and had to close due to repairs.

“It was a sad situation,” Josh Burks said. “The roof was ripped off the building, I had a semi-truck parked along the side of the building, it picked it up, flipped in into the building.”

Restaurant leaders say at first they weren’t sure whether they’d be able to re-open, but after a team effort, they were able to welcome back customers for the first time today.

“We really didn’t think we was going to be able to re-open the first day,” Burks said. “We’re back, we’re open, we’re re-modeled, and we just thank everyone for the support that stopped by while we were closed.”
