TROTWOOD, Ohio -- Leaders and people who live here are trying to save their only post office.

Trotwood City Council sponsored a workshop Tuesday night to talk about the post office, which is just off Main Street.  Council wants people to speak up and let the government know what it would be like without a post office.

Trotwood resident Bruce Kettelle said, "It was a total shock when I found out the post office was targeted. I felt I had to do something and my friends said lets do something."
Kettelle stepped forward and started a group called save the Trotwood Post Office.

He says the facility is a lifeline for many people. "Trotwood has a lower percentage of people who use the internet so there are people here who use it as main line of communication to the outside world".

Trotwood Mayor Joyce Sutton Cameron said, "We're trying to save jobs, we're trying to move our community forward."

The postal service is trying to save billions and says they need to close post offices to do so.

A consultant says the feds need to hear from citizens, letters, signatures, petitions, and anything to show why the facility is necessary.

Kettelle and the council worked out a plan to gather signatures and letters from all over the Trotwood and West Dayton Community.

The city's consultant will meet with the postal service manager tasked with deciding which post office will close September 20. The city hopes to have all of its information by that time.
