Upcoming employment expo at Edison Community College in Piqua

PIQUA — An employment expo open to everyone will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 23 at Edison Community College.

The free program will feature money management advice from the Ohio Treasury Department and will be held in the North Hall atrium, pavilion and convocation center. It is designed for residents of west central Ohio, including Darke, Miami and Shelby counties.

It will include information about internship programs, investment options, and interviews with prospective employers, according to the college’s announcement of the event.

“One of the goals of this event is to assist individuals as they begin the process of discovering a career that is right for them,” said Pam Gibellino, career services coordinator at Edison. “The Employment Expo brings employers and job hunters together face to face.”

The expo is being sponsored by Edison, the Upper Valley JVS, area job centers and the rehabilitation services commission.

Personnel from the human resources departments of numerous employers in the region will be on hand to accept resumes and to highlight the skills and knowledge the workforce needs.

Expo guests will have the chance to speak with representatives from organizations such as American Nursing Care, Hartzell Industries, Midmark, Norcold, Plastipak Packaging, Systemax, Upper Valley Medical Center, and Western-Southern Financial Group. These employers may have job openings representing a mix of technical and professional positions.

The event will also feature several staffing services including Adecco, Kelly Services, Pete DeLuke and Associates, Staffmark, and Volt Workplace Solutions.

These agencies typically market jobs in categories spanning clerical and administrative, sales and customer service, packing and production, and electronic assembly and machine operation.

Gibellino said some opportunities shared by employers at the expo will be less than full-time, enabling job seekers to blend work with college-level classes.

The upcoming event spotlights college internships with Emerson Climate Technologies in Sidney. Men and women candidates for these intern posts will be college majors enrolled in marketing, industrial engineering, computer information systems, mechanical engineering, or supply chain management.

A new twist to the expo this year allows participants to benefit from expertise of an Ohio Treasury Department official who will emphasize the innovative financial education and resources available through the OTD.

John Jones, OTD’s west central Ohio spokesperson, said the SaveNOW program offers an easy, rewarding way to build savings.

“Savers who open an account at participating banks receive a significant interest bonus on their average daily balance at the conclusion of the year,” Jones said.

Jones will be available at the expo to help educate campus visitors with well-tested plans regarding healthy money management.
