The renovations to the building will cost upwards of $500,000 and should be ready in 2017. The old Board of Education building, just north of the new library, will then be demolished.

Before the agreement, board member George Moorman offered to serve as the project’s construction manager; however, the other board members believed that would be a conflict of interest.
Moorman said that knowing the subcontractors and the process because of his career in construction could mean “the end result would be a savings.”

The new library will open for regular hours on Nov. 18 after a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 17.
