Vandalia’s first female police sergeant completes training program

VANDALIA – Julie Chiles was promoted to sergeant in August of this year, becoming the first female sergeant in the Vandalia Police Department’s history.

Chiles recently completed a three-week training course in Superior Training and Education Program (STEP). The program is intended to aid recently promoted sergeants and involves three separate in-residence segments totaling 11 days of instruction.

The Ohio Law Enforcement Foundation, in association with the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, started and hosts the program.
