Sucher died in March 2017 at a basketball tournament in Pittsburgh with friends and family. His death was a shock to many, according to Communications Manager Rich Hopkins.
Sucher was a great asset to the community, Hopkins said, noting his numerous years of service as a Vandalia police officer, chief of police, and city manager until he retired in 2004. Sucher later served on the Vandalia Butler Board of Education.
