Vandalia promotes Bicycle Month efforts, plans events for summer

Vandalia Mayor Arlene Setzer declared next month as Bicycle Month as the city continues to promote its efforts as a bicycle-friendly community.

Each week, the city will announce via social media and the city’s website a ‘Bicycle Tip of the Week’ for bicyclists to know safety tips and awareness of riding a bicycle, according to Communications Manager Rich Hopkins.

The city has a Bicycle Advisory Committee that residents run. Those representatives are Chuck Smith, Hal Hunter and Deborah Barry.

The month leads into the start of the summer cycling season for Vandalia residents and the Bicycle Rodeo on Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. at the Vandalia Sports Complex on Stonequarry Road.

The rodeo is to encourage bicycle safety for the children of Vandalia. The mayor’s outreaches are to make children think about their safety and the safety of others while riding their bicycles.

The city is hoping to tie the local neighborhood’s bike paths to the Great Miami Bike Trail. That idea is being examined at the current time.
