Vandalia Recreation Center offers summer programs

Summer is approaching and the Vandalia Recreation Center is getting ready for it with plenty of programs for all ages.

According to Aquatics Supervisor Steve Trick, the Cassell Hills Swimming Pool will officially open May 19. Residents can purchase pool passes starting March 31.

Patrons are able to rent the pool during after hours Friday through Sunday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Adults can play in a summer adult softball league that begins April 30. The men’s league will be on Monday nights, and the co-ed league is on Friday nights.

Parents can sign their kids up for the Rec Center’s Camp Rec Program. It is offered for children that will be in the first through sixth grades this fall, with a copy of the previous year’s report card.

It is run by college students majoring in education or who have been coaches, according to Recreation Supervisor Brittany Oliver. Weekly themes keep the kids entertained and engaged with field trips, as well.

The camp runs from May 29 to Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and registration begins April 18. There is also extended hours available.
