Hill, who was planning to play football at Independence Community College in Kansas, died from his wounds after he was taken to a local hospital, said Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones.

Fairfield School officials released a statement Thursday, saying “we are saddened by the untimely death of Antaun Hill Jr.”

“He was a great young man and a model student with an infectious smile. As a leader on the football team, he was scheduled to leave in a few weeks to continue playing the sport he loved at the collegiate level. He will be sorely missed by his friends, teachers, administrators, classmates and teammates. We will keep his family in our prayers during this extremely difficult time,” said school officials.

“This is a tragic ending for a young man who embraced life and showed so much promise. His death has had a profound impact on so many across the community,” said Gina Gentry-Fletcher, spokeswoman for Fairfield City Schools.

Information regarding Hill’s funeral arrangements will be forthcoming, said school officials.

Jones said the shooting happened around 10 p.m. Wednesday at Liberty Park on Yankee Road in Liberty Twp.

Besides Hill, two others — identified by the sheriff’s office as Zyquon Moody, 18, of Hamilton and Zyshaun Johnson, 19, of Cincinnati — were taken to hospitals with gunshots that were not life-threatening.

Jones said Wednesday’s event started when two groups met in the park for a fight and someone started shooting.

Romel Velasquez, 18, of Cincinnati was arrested and charged with murder and felonious assault.
