Volunteer work allows Bellbrook mom to branch out

Beth Hodson is no stranger to Bellbrook, but she still felt it was important to reconnect with others by volunteering in the community. In addition to holding a board position with the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Education Foundation, she also is serving as treasurer of the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek PTO.

“The volunteer positions just kind of fell into my lap, but I embraced them, because I wanted to know what was going on with the schools and the community,” said Hodson, a mother of three. “I’m glad I stepped up and volunteered, because I got to meet a lot of other moms I wouldn’t have ever met.”

Hodson was born in Gainesville, Fla., but moved to Kettering as an infant. During her kindergarten year, her parents, Cheryl and Mike Froning, moved Hodson and her sisters, Angie Froning and Kathryn Froning, to Bellbrook.

Hodson was involved in cheerleading, color guard and working on the yearbook at Bellbrook High School. During her senior year, she began dating 1993 BHS graduate, Aaron Hodson, the son of Kay and Ted Hodson, who also serves as the Sugarcreek Twp. clerk. Aaron Hodson also had three older sisters, Kris Hodson Gainey, Wendy Hodson Reigelsperger and Kelly Hodson Dircksen, a third-grade teacher in Bellbrook.

After graduating from Bellbrook High School in 1994, Hodson studied business administration at the University of Dayton where she majored in accounting.

“I like math, so it seemed like a good fit,” said Hodson, of her choice to study accounting. “I graduated in May of 1998 and got married in September 1998.”

Hodson worked as a public accountant for Arthur Anderson initially and then worked for Miller Valentine before accepting a position with NCR. Hodson was also raising her children, Miranda, 7, and Cole, 6.

In 2009, Hodson began working as a cost analyst at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Meanwhile, her husband, Aaron, had earned a degree from Capitol University and began working as a network administrator for Lion Apparel. He also coaches Passers League soccer for Miranda and instructional soccer for Cole.

“I had just accepted the position of PTO treasurer in January 2010 and then I found out that I was pregnant,” said Hodson, who gave birth to daughter, Callie in October. “I was a little worried, but everything worked out just fine. There are always opportunities to get involved and it’s not just about getting involved for your kids ... it’s for yourself. I met a lot of friends. It’s important to branch out.”

Hodson is currently volunteering for the Kelly Miller Circus that the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Education Foundation is bringing to Bellbrook to perform at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. May 18 at Bellbrook Middle School.
