He said there’s no immediate danger to people in the area, however, there will be some inconvenience because of the road closure. As a result, he recommends that motorists avoid Warren Street and take Main Street instead when going home this evening.
The leak occurred while a contractor was digging in the area to put in place a new water main, and a piece of concrete fell on the gas line and ruptured it, Petkus said.
The leak’s not affecting local homes and businesses in the area because they still have enough pressure in the lines to keep furnaces running, he said.
