Lebanon Warriors are preparing to dash 3.1 miles and raise cash to help Lebanon High School students attend college.

The Lebanon Alumni Association is organizing its annual Warrior 5K run and walk Saturday, June 11, as a fundraiser for building the nonprofit’s scholarship fund.

“The Lebanon Alumni Association was formed to raise money for scholarships to be offered to Lebanon graduating seniors and to support the schools in other ways as they arise. We also want to strengthen and expand friendships among LHS alumni of all graduating classes. The Warrior 5K gives an opportunity for alumni and their friends and families and all community members to come together at a fun event and also support the scholarship fund,” said Esther Larson, president and founding member of LAA.

Last year’s event drew more than 100 runners and walkers for the 5K and more than 60 children in the quarter-mile race.

The chip-timed race — which is open to all, not just Lebanon residents and alumni — will start at Lebanon Junior High School, 160 Miller Road in Lebanon.

Packet pick-up and late registration will be held Saturday, June 11, 7:15-8 a.m. with the race starting at 8:45 a.m.

The quarter mile run on the track for children 12 and younger will begin at 10 a.m. All participants will receive a ribbon.

The event also includes activities for the younger participants beginning at 9:15 a.m.

“Kids events include bean bag toss, bucket stilts, egg balance, football toss, Frisbee throw, jump rope fun, milk jug scoops and rocket throw,” Larson said. “Kona Ice will be available for anyone wishing to purchase a nice cold treat after the race.”

Proceeds from the event will go to the LAA scholarship fund.

Through their fundraising efforts, the association awarded $500 scholarships this spring to graduating seniors T.J. Stevens and Ali Russell. LAA has awarded a total of 10 scholarships over its four years.
