Washington Twp. has donated a “new” truck to the Ohio Homeland Security Region 3 Rescue Strike Team.

A total of 25 area fire agencies participate on the team, which provides rescue response to an eight-county area and to any area of Ohio when needed.

Recent responses include multiple trench collapses and missing person searches that included coordinating the search and rescue efforts of three regional rescue teams and Ohio Task Force 1 following the Memorial Day tornadoes.

“We’re proud to donate this truck to the Ohio Region 3 Rescue Strike Team because we know it will be an asset not only to our region, but to the state as well,” said Dale Berry, Washington Twp. Board of Trustees president.

The donated truck served as the Washington Twp. Fire Department’s rescue truck from 1992 until 2012.

Since then, it’s served as a utility vehicle for the hazardous materials program and is no longer needed, Chief Scott Kujawa said.
