WGI competition puts spotlight on Dayton this weekend

Thousands of people will attend and millions of dollars will be pumped into the local economy as the Winter Guard International World Championships return to Dayton this weekend.

WGI Sport of the Arts concludes it’s 40th season of competition Saturday with the culmination of the weekend events at the University of Dayton Arena with the World Class Championships at 5 p.m.

Preliminary competition begins Thursday with performances happening at UD Arena, Wright State University’s Nutter Center, Miami University’s Millett Hall and the Dayton Convention Center locally. The BB&T Arena at Northern Kentucky University also will host some of the preliminary competitions.

Schools competing from local districts include, Bellbrook, Kettering Fairmont, Miamisburg, Centerville and others.  Onyx and Allegoria Winterguard are two independent local winterguards competing.
