“It’s getting scary around here,” said the woman who asked not to be identified. “I know the girl who got shot. I don’t wish bad on anybody, I don’t want anybody to die, that’d be awful.”

She said she’s lived in the neighborhood for the past 15 years, but it’s declined the past four years. She said there needs to be more police patrols because there seems to be a rise in crimes, as cars have been broken into, there’s been fights and house fires.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries considered serious, which prompted authorities to call homicide units to the scene, Lt. Beavers said.

The relationship between the victim and suspect are unclear at this time.
