A Wright-Patterson Air Force Base employee was recently awarded the 2020 Parity Inc. Top Ten African American Male award, an award that acknowledges those who mentor and are involved in the African American community to help others achieve social-economic equality.

Kevin M. Simmons Sr., Affirmative Employment program manager, was nominated and scored high with Parity’s Executive Board packages.

“It was one of the most prestigious awards that I’ve ever received,” said Simmons.

Other notable recipients include Dave Chappelle, Ricky Robinson, John Fleming, James A. Bolden, Stephen L. Hightower, Dr. Andre T. Harris, Marc DeWitt, Joshua Johnson and David I. Fox.

“I’m very grateful because community involvement is key to my job,” said Simmons. “I’m helping grow talent that will one day take my place in the workforce.”

Parity’s mission is to advocate for self-sufficiency and collaborate with community partners to teach, train and serve the African-American community.

Over 770 people attended the awards luncheon, including base, community, political and religious leader.

To add to this prestigious award, Simmons also received congratulatory letters from Sen. Rob Portman, U.S. Rep. Mike Turner, Gov. Mike DeWine, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, Mayor Nan Whaley and the Board of County Commissioners.
