Inwood, a Marine and World War II veteran, was president of Office Outfitters, a Middletown business founded by his father in 1927.
He was a Middletown City Commissioner from 1968-75 and chairman of the commission from 1969-75, his family said. A Resolution of Appreciation, which was presented to him at his last commission meeting, thanked him for his many years of “unselfish service” to the city.

Inwood graduated from Middletown High School in 1945 and Miami University in 1950. He was a large supporter of Miami University’s athletic teams, especially the football and men’s basketball teams.
Sally Jo Inwood, his wife for 40 years, said her husband loved rooting for Charlie Coles, a former Miami men’s basketball coach, and Ben Roethlisberger, who quarterbacked Miami before his long and illustrious career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
She was asked about the many drives they made from Middletown to Oxford.
“We’d say, ‘We’re going to Oxford,’ and the car would go,” Inwood said with a laugh.
She described her husband as “happy, smiling, personable and loving.”
Then she added: “We had 40 wonderful years. He was the love of my life and I his.”
Her husband battled dementia for nearly a decade, but just last week, as was customary, he called her “sugar” and said he loved her “a bushel and a peck.”
Besides serving on City Commission, Inwood was a member of the Rotary Club, First United Methodist Church, Boy Scouts of America and Woodside Cemetery Board.
Other survivors include his daughter, Lou Ann Short; son, Charles “Chuck” Dudley Inwood II (Jean); daughter, Lori Bolin (Jeff); stepson, Bradley Shannon (Jennifer); stepdaughter, Carissa Shannon; and numerous grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Friday at the Woodside Cemetery Chapel, 1401 Woodside Blvd., Middletown with services at 3 p.m. Military honors will be conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard. A reception will follow in the Woodside Cemetery Community Room.
