A Hamilton man has been arrested for allegedly stealing from a church to sell for scrap metal then returning again for more.
Kristopher Lee Litschgi, 25, of the 100 block of Knapp Drive, is charged with felony breaking and entering and theft after deputies say he tried to steal a dunking booth from the parking lot of Faith Church, 1877 Millville Road, Monday morning.
Litschgi was a suspect in a theft from the church storage shed last week when a compressor, two 21-foot light poles and tools were stolen, according to Sgt. Rob. Whitlock. At about 10:55 a.m. Monday, deputies were alerted that the suspicious truck was back in the church lot.
Litschgi and the owner of the truck were questioned by detectivees and Litschgi told them he lied to the truck owner about having permission to take items. The truck owner was not charged.
The light poles were located at a scrap metal business. Some of the items taken during the first theft were still in the bed of the truck, according to deputies.
“I guess you could say the sheriff did the dunking in this case,” said Whitlock, noting enforcement of scrap metal theft is a focus of Sheirff Richard Jones.
Litschgi remained housed in the Butler County Jail Tuesday night.
