Man Sentenced To Pay Record Restitution For Killing

A Yellow Springs man sentenced to prison for killing his high school classmate was ordered Monday to pay a record amount of restitution to the victim's family.

A judge ordered Michael Rittnenhouse to pay nearly $435,000 in restitution to members of Timothy Lopez's family.

Rittenhouse beat the 18-year-old to death in 2002, then burned and buried his body in a shallow grave behind his home in Yellow Springs.

The remains were discovered in 2004.

Last year, Michael Rittenhouse was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
