Man Suffers Serious Injuries From Cliff Jumping Mishap

A man suffered serious injuries on Saturday after a jump from a cliff at Madison Lake went awry.

"Hot summer day. They were out, not a swimming pool available, and the closest thing was the gravel pit," said Trotwood Battalion Chief Steve Milliken.

Milliken said the man tried to jump 51 feet into the lake but something went wrong.

"When he fell, he apparently was hanging from a tree and bounced off the stone face," Milliken said.

Emergency crews quickly got the man out of the water. Careflight flew him to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. Crews said his leg was severely injured and his body was scraped.

"This is obviously a very dangerous thing to do, and we wouldn't recommend it to anyone," Milliken said.
