MasterBrand makes semi-custom kitchen and bathroom cabinets.
Company officials said they tried to adjust schedules, but ultimately they could not keep the plant in operation.
Greg Stoner, President of MasterBrand Cabinets said, "Unfortunately, due to the ongoing challenges in the housing market, we had no choice but to reduce manufacturing capacity in order to align production with marketplace conditons."
Stoner said production, maintenance and management employees at the plant will receive pay and benefits for the next 60 days and that's it.
MasterBrand's customer service operations, also in Richmond, will not be affected.
