His running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin addressed the crowd of supporters first saying, " This is overwhelming, thank you. This is what America is all about."
She also spoke about the importance of Ohio and of small town's like Lebanon to win the election. Gov. Palin said, "I've been told that 12 Presidents have come through Lebanon. How about we add another one...Senator John McCain."
Palin promised to work with McCain to put our country first.
Gov. Palin said, " There are some candidates who use change to promote their careers, and there are candidates like John McCain who use their careers to promote change. "
Palin outlined her job experience in Alaska and promised voters that the McCain-Palin administration will start drilling in this country. Palin said, "We're going to drill now to make this nation energy independent."
Sen. John McCain, wearing a shirt and ball cap, told supporters that Ohio is a state they must win. Sen. McCain said, " I'm grateful you're here. I'm grateful for this turnout."
During his speech, McCain promised to return the government back to the people. He said he understands who he works for and he works for you, the people.
Senator McCain promised to veto pork barrel spending. He promised to stop sending $7 billion overseas to countries who don't like us. He also promised to begin drilling immediately to make America less dependant on foreign oil. He promised to keep taxes low and reform healthcare.
McCain said, "It's time for us to show the world how America leads."
On the topic of the war in Iraq, McCain said Sen. Barack Obama refuses to acknowledge that he was wrong about the surge. McCain said, "We have succeeded in Iraq and our troops will come home with victory and honor."
McCain told the crowd that all his life he has put his country first. McCain promised, " I will always put my country first."
He ended the rally by asking voters for their support in November.
