Medical device company completes acquisition of Biotronic

NuVasive Inc., a leading medical device company, announced today it successfully completed the acquisition of Biotronic NeuroNetwork.

The boards of directors of both companies approved a definitive agreement, under which San Diego-based NuVasive will acquire Biotronic for $98 million cash.

“We are very excited to announce the completion of the Biotronic acquisition, as it advances NuVasive’s strategy to transform how spine procedures are approached, measured and valued from a clinical and economic perspective,” said Gregory Lucier, chairman and chief executive officer.

NuVasive focuses on transforming spine surgery, and the acquisition of Biotronic will aid in that goal, according to a news release. NuVasive Inc. made $811 million in revenue in 2015, and has an approximate workforce of 1,600 in more than 40 countries.

NuVasive Clinical Services will deliver intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring services to surgeons and healthcare facilities in more than 75,000 cases annually in the U.S., according to a news release.

By the end of 2016, the company plans to move its 97 employees to the new site, where it will receive state, county and local incentives. It will then add 200 jobs by 2018, according to the agreement.
