Meijer purchases nearly 60 acres near dairy production plan

Meijer Inc. recently purchased nearly 60 acres of land in Tipp City near its dairy product facility.

According to Miami County property records, the Grand Rapids, Mich-based retailer acquired just more than 59 acres of farm land on South County Road 25A. Lesher Farms sold the land for $3 million to Meijer, according to property records. The land value is appraised at more than $303,000.

Tipp City city manager Tim Eggleston said the retailer has not submitted any documented plans with the city but officials are pleased about the land purchase.

“We’re happy they’re expanding,” Eggleston said. “It’s always good to see any business expanding in our local community.”

Meijer is a Michigan-based retailer.

The land is near the company’s 180-acre distribution center and Purple Cow Creamery Dairy facility. In 2014, the retailer announced plans to open up the $100 million dairy production facility in Tipp City, which created more than 100 jobs.

Meijer has not confirmed any plans for the purchased land, but it would add to its already solidified presence in the region.

In April 2015, Meijer announced an investment of $50 million in four of its Dayton-area stores — launching extensive renovations of its “supercenters” in Kettering, Beavercreek, Miami Twp. and Englewood, company officials announced today.

Meijer officials said there are no concrete plans for the property at the moment.

“Our Tipp City Complex is a key point in our supply chain,” said Frank Guglielmi, Meijer communications senior director. “The purchase of this property simply provides us with room for growth in the future.”
