The restaurant — now sporting an updated entrance and new paint color — is targeting June 26 to begin serving customers again, according to its Facebook page.

Like a nearby Family Dollar and Sunoco gas station and others, the restaurant had to close and fix damage from the EF-1 tornado with winds up to 100 mph that stayed on the ground for up to four miles, according to the National Weather Service.
The Mel-O-Dee opened in 1965 and is known for its broaster chicken and other dishes made from scratch.
Repairs to the restaurant included the addition of two 10-ton air conditioning units lifted to the roof last week by a crane. The ceilings in the restaurant were removed and being replaced with new.
