Miami Twp.’s former trash vendor left customers with thousands of refuse containers, creating “a real mess” as it transitions to a new contractor, township officials said.

Waste Management Inc. did not collect the containers when its deal with the township expired at the end of 2017, leaving residents and the township to deal with the issue as Rumpke of Ohio Inc. began its three-year deal, township officials said.

“It’s a real mess,” township Board of Trustees Vice President Doug Barry said.

Waste Management provided services in the township for several years, including a three-year deal that expired at the end of the year. The Rumpke deal, which runs through 2020, will save customers money, officials said.
