Middletown doctor’s ‘true partner’ dies

The wife of a former Middletown doctor is being remembered for her unwavering love and dedication to her husband.

Mary Lou Roehll, wife of Dr. Walter Roehll, who practiced at Middletown Regional Hospital and Atrium Medical Center before his retirement, died Aug. 6 near their home in South Carolina. She was 90.

Michael Stautberg, president of the Atrium Medical Center Foundation, called Roehll a wonderful mother, grandmother and “true partner” of Dr. Roehll, 92.

“She was always by her husband’s side,” Stautberg said. “Together, they were the strongest of supporters of Atrium Medical Center and Middletown Regional Hospital. We are better as a community because of all that she shared with us.”

Roehll graduated from Miami University where she was crowned homecoming queen in 1950, her junior year. She married her college sweetheart, Walter Roehll, in 1951, and remained married for 67 years.

She remained active with the Hospital Auxiliary and High Fever Follies for Middletown Hospital and the Atrium Medical Center.

Roehll is survived four children, Debi, Lori, John, and Geoff, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and her favorite dog Emo.

The family held a memorial service Saturday in Hilton Head, S.C.
