Middletown police investigate social media threat at middle school

Middletown police were called this morning to investigate a threat of potential violence at Middletown Middle School.

Stephen Mosby, community liaison to the superintendent and spokesman, said the middle school administrative office received a tip via social media that an individual threatened an act of violence against the school about 8 a.m. today.

“We did what we would normally do and contacted law enforcement immediately,” Mosby said. “As a precaution, the high school, which was already in session, was placed on lockdown so police could do their work.”

No threat was found by police. Middle school classes are operating as normal, and all students are safe, Mosby said.

“The safety and security of our students is our number one priority and we appreciate our relationship with our local law enforcement. If you see something, say something,” Mosby said.
