Speaker of the House Ryan Smith appointed Ohio Rep. Candice Keller, R-Middletown, to the House Finance Committee.

The move fills a vacancy he created.

Smith chaired the House Finance Committee before he was elected to the speakership earlier this month. On June 14, he appointed Ohio Rep. Scott Ryan to chair the committee, and on Monday he named Keller to fill that vacancy.

Keller told the Journal-News she had requested former Speaker Cliff Rosenberger appoint her to the committee when he formed them at the start of the 132nd General Assembly last year.

“As a newly appointed member of the Ohio House Finance Committee, I will be able to put to work the same conservative fiscal oversight policies at the state level that have prospered Southwest Ohio,” she said. “I am honored by Speaker Smith’s confidence in me and look forward to working hard on behalf of the citizens of Ohio.”

More than 30 members of the House are on this committee, including one of Butler County's other representatives, Rep. George Lang, R-West Chester Twp.
