Property tax bills for Montgomery County have been mailed. Property owners who pay their taxes through an escrow account with their mortgage company will have their bill sent to their mortgage company. Tax payments are due July 15.
Taxpayers can pay their property tax bills with cash, check or debit and credit card at the Treasurer’s Office. The Treasurer’s website, www.mctreas.org, provides a property search page and option to pay by electronic check or debit and credit card. All electronic check and debit and credit card payments are subject to a convenience fee.
A payment sent by mail is considered paid on time as long as it is postmarked on or before the due date of Friday, July 15. Online payments are considered paid on time if the payment process is completed by 11:59 p.m. on July 15.
A 5 percent penalty will be applied to all Second Half 2015 tax charges that are paid on or between July 15 and July 31.
Regular business hours for the Treasurer’s Office are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Taxpayers are welcome to contact the Treasurer’s Office at 937-225-4010 or web site at www.mcohio.org/treasurer.
The Treasurer’s Office will be open on Saturday to provide taxpayers an opportunity to visit outside of normal business hours. Criminal Investigator named to county office
Montgomery County Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck, Jr. announced on July 6 that Kerry Smoot, originally from Englewood, has been appointed to the position of Criminal Investigator and Secret Service Officer in the Montgomery County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Smoot received his Basic Police Officer Training Certificate from the Sinclair Police Academy and his undergraduate degree in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati in 2002. He has nearly 14 years of experience as a police officer.
As a criminal investigator, Mr. Smoot will provide support for criminal felony cases, conduct general investigations of all types including consumer fraud complaints, criminal non-support cases and locating witnesses and others involved in criminal cases. STAFF REPORT

Assistant prosecuting attorney named to county office
Montgomery County Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck, Jr. announced on Wednesday that Kathryn “Alyse” Rettich, originally from Germantown, has been appointed to the position of Assistant Montgomery County Prosecuting Attorney.
Rettich received her law degree from the University of Dayton School of Law in 2016. She received her undergraduate degree in business management from the Indiana Institute of Technology in 2012.
She will be assigned to the Child Protection Unit of the Prosecutor’s Office; this unit intervenes to protect, and in some cases remove, abused and neglected children. STAFF REPORT
