Troopers said they never drove over the speed limit during the pursuit. They said they tried to pull Brooks over for a lane change violation.
Investigators said the chase started in Dayton on northbound Interstate 75 near Keowee Street. Troopers, along with Dayton police then followed Brooks for several miles to Route 571 in Tipp City only to turn around and head southbound on I-75.
Authorities said Brooks obeyed all the traffic laws. They said he then exited I-75 at Needmore Road and then ran over several sets of stop sticks and proceeded to turn onto North Dixie Drive.
A short time later, Brooks finally was taken into custody when his car rolled to a stop on the tire rims.
Brooks did not want to explain his actions. However, authorities said it appears Brooks was on his cell phone the whole time talking with his mother, who called Dayton police. Brooks told his mother that he was simply afraid to stop.
Troopers said Brooks will be charged with fleeing and eluding, along with the original minor traffic violation. They are also checking to see if he might have a past arrest record that would explain why he refused to stop.
