Mound Business Park plan likened to booming Austin district near I-75

Miamisburg is developing a plan for a zoning district for Mound Business Park, a similar move the city made with Miami Twp. and Springboro around the Austin Boulevard interchange at Interstate 75.

The 306-acre park overlooking the city has about 15 businesses with nearly 300 employees.

Unlike the Austin Center district - anchored by Austin Landing - much of the land is undeveloped. That makes it an opportune time to develop stricter standards and guidelines for the site, formerly a U.S. nuclear research facility, said City Planner Ryan Homsi.

The business park “has a very unique history,” he said. “For that reason it has a very unique use group that’s up there now. And a big chunk of the area is currently undeveloped.”

The proposal comes at a time when the business park is transitioning from public oversight with the city and the Mound Development Corp. to private ownership.
