Museum’s Family Day Jan. 19 to feature robotics from Dayton STEM School

From cultural celebrations to dining experiences to the fundamentals of art, there are many opportunities to find meaningful, fun and engaging activities to do in the Dayton area on Saturdays in January.

Learn about the exciting field of robotics through fun demonstrations and hands-on activities at the National Museum of the Air Force, 1100 Spaatz St., Wright-Patterson AFB., at its January Family Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. These programs are designed for participants of all ages.

Oil Painting for Beginners at the Rosewood Arts Centre, 2655 Olson Drive, Dayton, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., guides students through oil painting fundamentals with lessons on materials, composition, color and techniques. Students paint from still life motifs. Beginners are welcome but should have drawing experience, and enrollees will be provided a supplies list. $90, resident and $100, non-resident, fees will be charged and a follow-on class will also meet on Feb. 23 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. For more information, or to register, call the Rosewood Arts Centre at 937-296-0294.

The Dayton Playhouse presents "Ain't Misbehavin'," a musical celebration of jazz great Fats Waller, and features such tunes as "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter" and "It's a Sin to Tell a Lie." • There's still time for great food with reduced prices at more than 40 area restaurants as Dayton's Winter Restaurant Week winds down. While each dining establishment handles the week differently, three-course meals will be available for $20.19, $25.19 and $30.19 at many venues. • The doors open at 10 a.m. for the Annual Cincinnati-Dayton RV Show, held at the Dayton Convention Center, 22 E. Fifth St., Dayton, where recreational vehicle enthusiasts, as well as anyone else, can peruse the latest in travel trailers, motorhomes, fifth wheels, toy haulers and much, much more. Adult admission cost is $10, children are admitted free. Members of Good Sam Club, an international organization of recreational vehicle owners, can pay just $8 per adult admission for up to two tickets.

• The 31st annual International Conference and Festival of Blacks in Dance is billed as "a dance lover's playground – a fully immersive experience for all things black dance" and "the broadest gathering of Black Dance professionals in the U.S. and abroad." "Etched in Stone: Resilient Through Time" is this year's theme for the event, which is held at the Dayton Convention Center.
