Name chosen for new community garden

MetroParks of Butler County has announced the results of the “Name the Garden Contest” for the community garden in Middletown, which is a collaborative effort between MetroParks and the City of Middletown. The garden committee consisting of members from MetroParks, Ohio State University Extension office, Berns Garden Center and the City of Middletown enjoyed the task of reviewing names submitted.

“Middletown Community Garden,” the name submitted by Patrick Bourne was the name agreed upon.

“I wanted to bring attention to the fact that we have a community garden at the center,” said Kenna Brongersma of Berns Garden Center when asked why this was her top pick.

“The plots are filling up quickly,” Kathy Edelen, Outdoor Educator and Community Garden Coordinator for MetroParks, said.

Anyone interested in renting a plot can pick up a welcome packet at the Middletown Community Recreation Center at 800 LaFayette Ave. People may also contact MetroParks via email at Programs@yourmetroparks.net, or call MetroParks at 513-867-5835, ext. 304.

There will be free gardening programs for children, adults and families on a variety of topics being offered at the Middletown Community Garden. The Growing Strong and Growing Together programs run through the summer and until the garden is prepared to rest in the fall.
