DNC 2016: Local delegates react to Clinton’s speech

In an arena literally packed to the rafters, Hillary Clinton reveled in her moment in history as the first female major party nominee in U.S. history. And the audience soaked in the moment as well.

Southwest Ohio delegates and guests attending the Democratic National Convention offered their reactions to her speech.

Here’s what they had to say:

Montgomery County Treasurer Carolyn Rice, a Clinton alternate delegate

“I love the quote from Methodist faith to explain what drives her passion for public service. She’s drawing an excellent contrast between her and Trump plus weaving in her accomplishments, knowledge and compassion.

Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, a Clinton delegate

“The room is electric and so special. You realize history is being made.”

Butler County Democratic Party Chair Jocelyn Bucaro, a Clinton delegate

“She is opening the door to all Americans, welcoming in everyone because we are stronger together. It is a sharp contrast to the divisive and dangerous message we heard last week in Cleveland. She is energizing this room and activists across the country tonight.”

Nick Froehlich of Maineville, a delegate for Sanders

“Hillary saying that she’s heard us is a big deal. I like that she is talking about the platform, and how they wrote it together HUGE deal to us that she took the time to denounce the TPP.”

Former Dayton mayor and Vice Chair of the Ohio Democratic Party Rhine McLin

“She made me proud to be a woman and I believe when she said we will not build walls but build an economy for all Americans to prosper. Hillary exhibited grace with grit.”
