More than 1,000 members of the media took to the floor of the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland this week to get a preview of accommodations for the upcoming Republican National Convention.
The event, scheduled for July 18-21, is expected to draw an estimated 50,000 convention delegates, alternates and members of the media.
Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish said Cleveland has put a lot of effort and planning into the convention. He reassured people that security planning is on target and a new downtown hotel will be completed on time.
Convention planners also expressed support for the Cleveland police and other security forces who will deal with the crowds and protesters.
On Wednesday, Cleveland’s City Council approved spending more than $500,000 on security equipment for police, according to Cleveland.com.
The possibility of a contested convention increased this week, when Texas Sen. Ted Cruz won most of the delegates in Wisconsin, making the path more difficult for Donald Trump to secure the nomination before the convention in Cleveland.
King wouldn’t comment on the possibility of a brokered convention.
