Alleged shoplifter in California hit by car after running out of Kohl’s, police say

A woman who allegedly shoplifted merchandise from a Kohl’s department store in California was hit by a car while fleeing the scene Saturday night, authorities said.

According to Officer Robert Heims, of the San Diego Police Department, the 39-year-old woman was being pursued by the store's loss prevention team in Clairemont when she ran in front of a 2011 Kia Soul, KSWB reported.

The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old woman, remained at the scene, KNSD reported.

The woman accused of shoplifting suffered a broken pelvis and "several other injuries," Heims told the television station. She was taken to an area hospital and was in serious condition, KSWB reported.

Alcohol was not suspected to be a factor, police said.
