Arizona officer bitten by burglary suspect during arrest, police say

An Arizona man is accused of biting an officer while he was being arrested by Phoenix police on burglary charges early Saturday, authorities said.

Diago Nelson, 45, was charged with burglary, aggravated assault of an officer and resisting arrest, KNXV reported.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to a burglary call at an apartment complex around 1 a.m., KTVK reported.

Based on descriptions provided by witnesses, officers identified and found Nelson in the area, KTVK reported.

When officers attempted to arrest Nelson, he refused to listen to commands and began to fight back, the television station reported.

Police said Nelson bit one officer "several times," according to KNXV.

Nelson was eventually subdued and taken to the Maricopa County Jail.
