But Jennifer Knox realized she had a way to help her staff who were all now unemployed.
"We were sitting there, doors locked, and I'm like 'oh my gosh, there's money on the walls and we have time on our hands. We gotta get this money down,'" Knox told CNN.
Five volunteers took three and a half days to remove 15 years of dollar bills down from the walls and ceilings.
The group also cleaned and counted them. In all, they had $3,714, CNN reported.
Once word got out, customers chipped in some more cash.
In all, they had $4,104 to hand out to four bartenders and two musicians, according to CNN.
But the goodwill doesn't end there. One of The Sand Bar's bartenders donated some of her money to bartender from another business. Knox is also collecting donations for her staff, but vows that once the pandemic is over, The Sand Bar will reopen, CNN reported.
