Officials with Special Olympics Pennsylvania said the 2020 Indoor Winter Games were canceled “due to concerns related to the spread of the coronavirus.”
In a Facebook post, the organization acknowledged how the decision is disappointing to many athletes and their families but said that health and safety were top priority. Organization officials said many of the athletes they serve are at a heightened risk of infection for a variety of reasons and many competitors travel long distances to compete.
The events were scheduled to begin Saturday, WPXI reported.
