As if senior citizens did not have enough to worry about, being pegged as the age group most vulnerable to the coronavirus. Now, with a month to go before the income tax filing deadline, people older than 60 have more stress to deal with.

The AARP announced Saturday that its Tax-Aide services will be suspended "until further notice," because of COVID-19 concerns.

“Tax-Aide is prioritizing the health of taxpayers, our volunteers, and the communities we serve by suspending service until further notice,” Lisa Marsh Ryerson, president of AARP Foundation, said in a statement.

The AARP said it will continue to monitor whether Tax-Aide can reopen some or all of its sites during this tax season -- even if it is extended.

On Wednesday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the Trump administration plans to delay the April 15 tax deadline for most individual taxpayers and small businesses, The Wall Street Journal reported.

“For small and medium-sized businesses, for hardworking individuals, we are going to recommend to the president that we allow the delay and that they don’t have to pay an interest or penalty on that,” Mnuchin told reporters after testimony before Congress. “That will have the impact of putting over $200 billion back into the economy, and that will create a very big stimulus.”
